Gerald was award the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Vietnamese Cross of Galantry, Vietnamese Military Merit and CIB posthumously, along with receiving the Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Civil Action Medal and the National Defense Medal
I realized the Bronze Star (we still don’t realize completely in the eyes of soldier what this means) & the Purple Heart was something special but had no idea of the others until I read your website. This warms the heart and my mother would be so proud of him. I will be going to the War Veterans home to see my dad and will pass on this information. I have been doing my best to watch the specials on the History channel about Vietnam (Vietnam HD) and I was amazed to see the comparisons with WWII and Vietnam. The length of time you guys spent out in the field was unbelievable. The physical and mental stress that soldiers went through compared to other wars and conflicts, could not compare. The Vietnam Veteran was truly a special person…Thanks Sgt. Krause! This has made my day.
