LTC Richard R. Garey
LTC Garey assumed command in March 2013. Under his command, the unit was deployed to Afganstan, February 27th to November, 2014 operating as Combined Task Force Lethal, part of Operation Enduring Freedom at Forward Operating Base Apache. During his tour, the unit experienced some heavy action.

He was the battalion commander from March 2013 until March 2015. His next assignment was running the ROTC program at Penn St. Following this, he retired from the service. He is currently employed in the private sector.

2015-2017
LTC Paul W. Staeheli
LTC Staeheli assumed command in March 2015. Under his command, the unit was sent to Ft Knox in June, 2015 to run Task Force Lethal,  to led  U.S. Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Cadet Summer Training, or CST, gives future Army officers the individual and unit leadership skills necessary to lead Soldiers. The next year the unit was deployed to Afganistan as part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel - February to November ,2016. This was the six deployment for the 2-12th in the past twelve years.

Since leaving this post, COL Staeheli, USA, was the J3X and XO  to the Deputy Commander at USSOCOM . He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army Senior Service War College, an M.S. in defense analysis terrorist operations and financing from the Naval Postgraduate School and a B.S. in biology from the University of Portland

Following schooling he served as the J3 for Special Operations Joint Task Force in Afghanistan and then served as the Commander for Army Capability Manager Mission Command and Command Posts at Fort Leavenworth. He then served as the G3 for 8th Army in Korea and is currently serving as the Chief of Staff for 8th Army.

LTC Kirby "Bo" Dennis
LTC Dennis assumed command in March 2017. Under his command, the unit was sent to Grafenwoehr, Germany as part of an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE) where they trained for two weeks before returning to Ft Carson. In the fall the unit went to the National Training Center to prep for the unit's seventh deployment to Afghanistan. From February to November 2018, the unit was part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel located at Kandahar.

Since leaving this post, LTC Dennis was assigned to a fellowship for a year. Following this he was assigned to Ft Campbell, KY as the G-3 in the 101st ABN where he was promoted to the rank of Colonel. Two years later, June 2022  his assignment was the commander of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Divsion at Ft Bliss, El Paso, TX. Currently he is now back at Ft Campbell serving as the 101st Division Chief of Staff

LTC Jose Vasquez
2019-2021
LTC Vasquez assumed command in March 2019 through 2021. Due to the COVID outbreak, the majority of the time, the unit remained on the post. Since the post was closed to visitors during this time, interaction was non-existant.

After 2-12, I was assigned to USASOC and served as the Movement and Maneuver Chief for Special Operations Group-Juliet at the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, KS. My final role before retirement was  the Deputy Chief of Operations for the Mission Command Training Program.

2021-2023
LTC Thomas F. Carroll
LTC Carroll assumed the command March 2021. As he took over the battalion, the 2nd Brigade began the transition from foot infantry to a Stryker brigade. After two years of intensive training, both on the post and with field exercises at JRCT, Ft Polk, LA. the unit is ready to be deployed and flex their muscles.

LTC Carroll left Ft Carson for Ft Irwin, San Bernardino County, Cal to serve as the Chief of Operations, Light Infantry Task Force Senior Trainer (Tarantula 07) at the National Trainng Center or NTC. An important stop for units deploying, to practice their large scale tactics in urban villages or open settings prior to departure. Mostly it a training facility for units practicing against an opposing and or insurgent forces and at times getting a dual threat.

He was asked to remain a 2nd year, and is currently serving as the senior BCT trainer, Bronco 07. He will attend Senior Service College this summer (2025), and unsure after that. He was selected for COL, and says he will have to see where that takes him.
